Hero Run 2018
176 runners participated in the Pregnancy Care Center’s Hero Run on April 14, 2018 – 130 finishing the 5K run/walk and 46 finishing the 10K. 22 of these participants showed up that morning to register – despite the cold temperatures and rain.
The event was emceed by U-93’s Deb Millin and included snacks from Jimmy John’s, Fairland Christian Church and the Salvation Army. Winners of the 10K were Elias Rojas (with a time of 34:20.07) and Colleen Dabler (with a time of 42:30.95). Winners of the 5K were Justin Kowalski (with a time of 17:21.08) and Sarah Saylor (with a time of 22:54.23). All four of these winners received $150 gift cards to Fleet Feet in Mishawaka, IN.
This was a themed race with participants encouraged to dress in superhero costumes. Prizes were awarded for best costume and participants were reminded throughout the event that their participation was helping men, women, children, and babies in the community – making them HEROES for LIFE!
Special thanks and congratulations to Melanie Bizoe of Pulse FM who successfully completed her first ever 5K at the Hero Run and helped raise awareness for the event by talking about it on air.
Corporate sponsors for the Hero Run included Lakeland Health, Berrien County Right to Life, Chemical Bank, Wolverine Electrical Contracting, Inc, Allied Solutions, Niles Vision Clinic and Brown Funeral Home. Prizes for the drawing after the run were donated by Milano’s, Pizza Transit, Forever Clean Soapworks, The Niles/Buchanan YMCA, Inertia Cycleworks, Brew Ha! Ha! and Veni’s Sweet Shop.
Despite the rain, it was a joy to be out there for this great cause!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Hero Run a success! See you next year!
