On April 17, 2018, the Pregnancy Care Center received a $21,000 grant from the Lakeland Health Foundation to go towards ultrasound equipment at the Benton Harbor/St. Joe expansion. This grant will make it possible for the Benton Harbor/St. Joe Expansion to open with the ability to provide free ultrasounds for Benton Harbor and St. Joseph residents.

Estimates on how many women reject abortion after seeing ultrasound images of unborn children vary. Care-Net, a nationwide network of Christian pregnancy resource centers, reports statistics which indicate that abortion-minded women are 50 percent more likely to give birth after viewing images of their unborn babies on an ultrasound monitor. Others estimate the success rate at about 80 percent.

The ultrasound machine is like a window to the womb. There is something that happens to the mother when she sees her baby and hears the baby’s heartbeat, and others in the room are also impacted by the experience. This experience has had a tremendous impact on the choices of the clients at the PCC in Niles. Now, thanks to this grant, this experience will be possible for many in Benton Harbor and St. Joe as well.

Lyndon Azcuna, executive director of the Pregnancy Care Center, stated that great excitement has been building among the staff and volunteers at the PCC concerning the expansion. “We are so excited about how God is leading the way and opening doors ahead of us as we make this move into Benton Harbor”, Lyndon stated after picking up the check from the Lakeland Health Foundation.

Lisa Smith, Client Services Director for the Pregnancy Care Center, echoed his comments and added, “We can’t wait to meet the clients that God has in store for us and to share the Gospel with them.”

The Pregnancy Care Center Team continues to request prayer support as they take the steps necessary to make this expansion a reality. The PCC leadership has agreed that 90% of the funding for this project needs to come in before moving forward with renovations. $31,000 is still needed to provide renovations, full service, and one year’s rent.  Please continue to pray for this to happen in God’s timing.
